We are delighted to announce that Minuteman will start valet parking services at Torrance Memorial Medical Center on March 1, 2011. We are excited to partner with the hospital and we welcome everyone at Torrance Memorial to the Minuteman family.

Torrance Memorial Medical Center is a locally governed, 401-bed, non-profit medical center whose purpose is to provide quality healthcare services, predominantly to the residents of the South Bay, Peninsula and Harbor communities. Under the governance of a community-based board of trustees, Torrance Memorial serves the public interest by:

  • Improving the community health within the scope and expertise of its resources
  • Offering the most current and effective medical technologies rendered in a compassionate, caring manner
  • Maintaining long-term stability in order to assure its strength and viability for the benefit of the community.

We are pleased to add this medical facility to our growing list of clients in the West.

This past weekend marked our 5th annual Manager Meeting, which was held at the corporate office in El Segundo, CA. Over 40 managers flew in from the Northwestern and Southwestern United States to attend this exciting event.

We are proud to announce that Walter Avelar was the recipient of the prestigious “Manager of the Year” award. Walter captures the strength and leadership qualities that Minuteman values in its employees. We commend Walter for raising his property’s JD Power & Associates Score in Valet—the highest it has ever been! Chris Fox, Minuteman’s President, hired Walter as a valet and driveway supervisor in 1992 (before Minuteman was founded!) when Chris managed the parking operations at the Los Angeles airport Marriott and Sheraton. Congratulations to Walter for his continued success.

The year’s Hospital Top Performer Award went to West Lutes, and the Hotel Top Performer Award went to Aarron Rosen.

Additional awards were given out in the following categories: improved claims, best guest satisfaction scores, and highest improved profit. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners!

Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center

The Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center in Fountain Valley becomes our 4th new medical facility customer this year on November 9th.  We are delighted to begin partnering with Orange Coast as they are the only not-for-profit hospital in Fountain Valley and its surrounding communities.   And the hospital was voted “Best Place to Work” and “Best Companies to Work for” by the readers of the Orange County Register and OC Metro Magazine.

We will start with a valet station at the front door of their new Orange Coast Patient Care Pavilion which is opening this month.  Connected by a sky bridge to the main hospital, the 6-story, 162,500 square-foot structure will be home to some of the most advanced medical treatments and highly-regarded specialists in the region.  We are also adding a brand new Gem golf cart to ferry visitors and patients from the self-parking lot to the hospital entrance.  Over the next few months, we plan to add other valet and Door Ambassador positions throughout the Medical Center campus.

Signs You Need A New Valet Parking Vendor

Thursday, November 13th, 2008 by Chris Fox

At Minuteman Parking, we are passionate about our service and professionalism. Wherever I go, I am always on the lookout to see how other valet parking companies operate – and it always amazes me what I find.

Here are just a few telltale signs illustrated by some pictures we took recently while conducting some competitor research:

Are your valets inattentive and do they look uninterested in customer services? You only get one chance at making a great first impression for your property. To provide a jumpstart on this first impression, Minuteman Parking requires all attendants to remain posted and standing at all times to create a positive and friendly atmosphere. We also create a personalized script to greet guests and visitors so that everyone is greeted courteously and consistently. All of our associates are always in a proper and professional uniform and they do not wear sunglasses unless medically necessary.

Are your valets using cell phones while on duty? If your valet attendants are using cell phones while on duty, they are not providing their full attention to making a favorable impression for your property. At Minuteman Parking, our associates are instructed to never use cellphones while on duty.

Valets Should Not Use Phones On Duty

Are your valets eating on duty? How can associates provide exceptional customer service when their mouths are full or their fingers are greasy? Minuteman Parking has a strict “no food on duty, period policy. We enforce a policy of eating only while on assigned breaks and only in designated areas.

Do your valets follow valet parking best practices? Minuteman Parking sets strict parking procedures that include parking only in designated valet parking areas and backing cars into spaces to make them easily identifiable and to reduce the risk of accidents. On on-site manager or shift leader periodically patrols our parking areas to ensure compliance and reinforce procedures on a daily basis.
